L’AMOR VENIA AMB TAXI has been recognized at the Performing Arts Critics’ Awards with two outstanding honors that we are especially delighted about: Best Costume Design and Best Musical.

This double recognition highlights the work of the entire team behind the production, as well as the spirit of the show, which from the very beginning set out to be a tribute to amateur theatre in Catalonia — and, in a way, also to our own history and way of making theatre.

This project was made possible thanks to the repayable grants from ICEC for Catalan-language musicals, the tax incentives from the Ministry of Culture, which we accessed with the support of Reixach Escorxador, and the willingness of Grup Focus, who made room for us in the program of the Teatre Romea. With all this support, we decided to take the plunge — and the project grew, and grew a lot.

The truth is that “El taxi”, as we affectionately call it within the company, has been an extraordinary experience and has brought us so much joy.

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank the critics for this award… and also all the people who have been part of this adventure, on and off stage.

La Cubana is currently immersed in the creation and production of its new show, La cuisine de ma cousine, a project the company has long been eager to undertake. Following the end of performances of L’amor venia amb taxi at Barcelona’s Teatre Romea, the new production has now begun to take shape, marking a new chapter for the company.

This show allows us to explore the world of gastronomy and the “culinary frenzy” that has taken hold of us in recent years. A frenzy that goes beyond simply eating well or tasting exquisite dishes, and extends to the need to display, share and broadcast what we eat and where we eat it.

Our intention is for this new production to begin its journey with a tour throughout Spain, and once completed, to be presented in its Catalan-language version in Barcelona.

Tickets are already on sale for performances at the Teatro Gayarre in Pamplona, where the show will run during the San Fermín festival, from 25 June to 12 July.

With La cuisine de ma cousine, La Cubana remains true to its creative spirit, working through humor, observation and theatrical play, and preparing a production that, as always, aims to surprise audiences and turn theatre into a shared experience.

Further details about this new project will be revealed in the coming weeks, as the show begins its stage journey in Pamplona before continuing on its path.

We are thrilled to announce that Jordi Milán, director of La Cubana, has been awarded the 2025 SGAE Medal of Honor in recognition of his outstanding career and contribution to the performing arts.

SGAE has honoured Jordi Milán as the soul of La Cubana, “who, under his direction, has brought theatre closer to the public with a unique style full of humour, complicity and creativity.”

Since 1986, Jordi Milán has created and led more than twenty iconic productions that have left their mark on generations, including Cómeme el coco, negro, Campanades de boda, Cegada de amor, and Adiós Arturo, among many others.

This year award ceremony will take place on May 21st at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where Joaquín Sabina, Gema R. Neira and Editorial Boileau will also be honoured. A tribute will also be paid to María Lejárraga, who has been named honorary president posthumously.

This recognition of Jordi is one we also share with everyone who has been, or is currently, part of La Cubana. Congratulations, Jordi!

La Cubana started as a game 45 years ago, and we are still playing today. We are very lucky that the audience has always supported us; thanks to this, we have been able to make a living from theatre all these years.

We have designed this exhibition at the Palau Robert as a game, so that those who don’t know us can discover our journey, and those who already do can delve deeper into our way of working—very artisanal—which we have preserved since our beginnings in amateur theatre.

Since we are born “rag-and-bone collectors” and keep everything, you won’t find a “conventional” (minimalist and designer) exhibition, but rather a “Christmas tree” loaded with many ornaments.

Through a journey among our treasures—costumes, wigs, props, sets, photographs, videos…—you will be able to discover the unique world of La Cubana.

 

The Amics de La Rambla Association, which annually grants the Ramblista of Honor awards, has chosen to award us this year’s Ramblista of Honor distinction: “in recognition of its artistic trajectory, its relationship with and affection for La Rambla, and its contribution to the happiness and well-being of Barcelona’s residents.”

The other recipients of this distinction are Joan Oliveras Bagués and Cristina Caparrós. The award ceremony took place this Wednesday, October 23rd, in the Saló de Cent at Barcelona City Hall, presided over by the Mayor of Barcelona, Mr. Jaume Collboni, and the president of the Amics de la Rambla Association, Pau Bosch.

The founder and director of La Cubana, Jordi Milán, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the entire company for this recognition and highlighted La Rambla’s importance to our trajectory. After leaving Sitges, we set up our operations headquarters very close by, on Carrer del Carme.

La Cubana has had and continues to have a deep relationship with La Rambla, which we hold dear: it was there that we performed for the first time in a theater, at Teatre Romea, with La Tempestad (1986); the Capitol became a theater when we performed Cómeme el coco, negro (1990), and we produced and rehearsed Cegada de Amor in commercial spaces on Carrer del Carme and Carrer de la Junta de Comerç. La Rambla has also been the setting for many of our street performances, celebrations, and press conferences.

Editorial Boileau has published the scores of the “Cançó de les Teresines” to celebrate the success of the “teresina’s revival” that we started with the podcast “Les Teresines pim, pam, pum” for Catalunya Radio and the publication of the biography “Vida de Teresina”

Editorial Musical Boileau has published an album with the lyrics and scores of the popular “Cançó de les Teresines”, with the music and lyrics composed by Joan Vives. In other words, for all those people who want to “play and sing it” they have to buy the scores, published by this prestigious music publisher. “Cançó de les Teresines” is a very practical booklet, designed for music students, which apart from the lyrics, contains the scores for voice and piano, and also the instrumental score (piano) that comes with a QR code to be able to listen to the sung version and the instrumental.

It is an honor for La Cubana that these scores have been edited and we want to take the opportunity to thank our longtime musician, Joan Vives, who apart from the Teresines, since 1990 has composed the music from almost all our shows.

Since its premiere 32 years ago “Teresina SA” had become a cult series in Catalonia, and now, finally this Tuesday, July 23, the thirteen episodes of the series that La Cubana produced together with Televisió de Catalunya arrive on NETFLIX.

For those who do not yet know this comedy, it is a portrait of manners, which shows a series of everyday situations that are very close and known to everyone. Teresinas, the main characters, are three single sisters from the Barcelona neighbourhood of Gràcia, who live with their brother Tomàs.

“Teresina, S.A.” is the name of the underground economy company they have set up at home, where they place orders for anything they are offered: stuffed animals, packing letters, gluing buttons, paper flowers, souvenirs, flags…

Almost all the neighbours on the stairs come to work or gossip on the Teresinas apartment. Each chapter is set in a month of the year in chronological order (starting in August and ending in August of the following year) and is titled after a traditional festival on the calendar, which is also related to the order they have received and are “producing.”.

We hope that all those who know the series will recommend it to their friends everywhere, since “Teresina S.A” can be seen on the Netflix platform also with Spanish subtitles.

 

Sant Jordi was a wonderful day… The Teresines put on comfortable clothes and wanted to be accompanied by three “dudes” who rolled them to signings at different points in Barcelona. Rosita and Paca didn’t want to miss out either; they also left Gràcia to meet all the series’ followers.

The day began with a visit to the stalls of Catalunya Radio and Rac1 set up in the center of Barcelona. Then they moved around different book stalls in Barcelona (FNAC, Ona Bookstore, Alibris Bookstore, Abacus Bookstore), and also to the special stall that La Cubana set up on the Rambla de les Flors in front of the Boqueria Market.

There were many moments of emotion for all those people who have enjoyed these characters and love them as if they were family.
